One of our caretaking team has cleaned up at the Sysco Apprentice of the Year Awards by winning the ‘Recognition Award.’
Phil Doyle, now Assistant Manager – Caretaking, enrolled onto the apprenticeship as a Caretaker to progress his career and gain a team leader role by improving his knowledge and skills.
He was promoted to Regional Supervisor just as he started his CMI Level 3 Apprenticeship for Team Leader/Supervisor in April 2021. He then successfully applied for the Assistant Manager post in April 2022 and completed the course last month.
The awards, run by Sysco Business Skills Academy, recognise and celebrate apprentices’ exceptional contributions to the workplace.
Sysco Tutor Sue Davies said: “Phil has worked so hard during his apprenticeship. His contribution to his cohort has been excellent and he has supported other colleagues also attending.”
Zoe Turner, our Operations Manager – Caretaking said: “I have noticed a vast improvement in Phil’s knowledge, skills and confidence. The content of the programme had a direct impact on his promotion to Assistant Manager and I am so pleased he was recognised with this award.”
Phil said: “It was challenging but Zoe was really supportive in not just making sure I was getting the time to complete the work but also for the advice and explaining when I wasn’t sure about something. It’s an opportunity I had never had before at the other places I have worked previously to joining Jigsaw and am now applying what I have learned in my new role.”
